There’s money in the sale of sponsorships and advertising for Borough residents

I have asked Council officers to look at the possibility of increasing revenue to Council with the sale of sponsorships and advertising.

With a fleet of vehicles on the road, a quarterly magazine delivered to every door in the Borough, a website that attracts thousands of hits every month, and a calendar of events that attract visitors to locations across the Borough, there is an abundance of opportunities for the Council to sell advertising and sponsorships.

I have been in contact with a couple of Councils in England who have undertaken a full review of the opportunities and in some cases have already set up a small team to take full advantage of sponsorships.

In Chichester District Council, for example, they have realised an income of close to £1m over the past five years by exploiting the various opportunities, while at the same time being careful not to damage events or the environment with intrusive advertising.

There is a great opportunity for us to do the same in Ards and North Down, and I’m looking forward to see what innovative ideas we can put into practice to help make more money available to provide better or additional services in the future
